The paper “Processing time-series of randomly forced self-oscillators: the example of beer bottle whistling”, co-authored with N. Noiray (ETHZ) is now published in the Journal of Sound and Vibration. (arXiv)

Congratulations to M. Sellier (U. Canterbury) for receiving MBIE 2019 Endeavour Funding (1 million NZ$) to develop a multi-axis spin-coating system to coat curved surfaces!

Presentation at ETC17
I will attend the 17th European Turbulence Conference, in Torino, Sept. 3-6, where O. Cadot (U. Liverpool) will give a talk about our work on fluid-structure interaction. I thank the AFM (Association Française de Mécanique) for financial support.

New paper published
The paper “Pancake making and surface coating: Optimal control of a gravity-driven liquid film”, co-authored with M. Sellier (U. Canterbury), is now published in Physical Review Fluids. It has also been selected as an Editors’ Suggestion, and featured in the APS “Physics” online magazine!

I am delighted to take up a position at École polytechnique as assistant professor. I will conduct research at the Laboratory of Hydrodynamics (LadHyX) and teach in the Department of Mechanics.

Visit and presentation at UC
I visited M. Sellier at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ, to work on thin film problems such as coating. I also gave a seminar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering about stochastic fluid-structure interaction.

I attended the 7th conference on Bluff Body Wakes and Vortex-Induced Vibrations, in Marseille, where O. Cadot gave a talk about our work on fluid-structure interaction. I enjoyed the single-session format. I am grateful to T. Leweke and the organizing committee for facilitating my participation.

The paper “Experiments and modelling of rate-dependent transition delay in a stochastic subcritical bifurcation” is now published in Royal Society Open Science, and freely available.

New paper accepted in European Journal of Mechanics – B/Fluids
The paper “Revisiting the drag reduction problem using adjoint-based distributed forcing of laminar and turbulent flows over a circular cylinder” has been accepted in The European Journal of Mechanics – B/Fluids.

Presentation at LadHyX
On March 9, I will visit the Hydrodynamics laboratory of the École polytechnique (LadHyX) at École polytechnique and give a seminar.

I will attend the 70th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics, held November 19-21 in Denver, Colorado. I will give a presentation about the acoustics of bottle whistling.

Presentation at UPMC  
On November 7, I will visit L’Institut Jean Le Rond d’Alembert at UPMC (Paris VI University), and give a presentation about modeling and identification of stochastic oscillators in aero/thermoacoustics.

On August 21, I will visit the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen, and give a presentation about adjoint methods for flow control and system identification.

SFB TRR40 Summer Research Program 
I am attending the 4th Summer Research Program of the Collaborative Research Center TRR40 held at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, in the scope of a collaboration between ETHZ, TUM and DLR about parameter identification in thermoacoustic systems.
